2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure informed staff about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a more defined vision.
The president stated that the team is now reimagining the project with a revised focus, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
This announcement echoes a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Team—
I know you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the chance to work with - and we’re eager for that partnership to continue.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was revealing. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the requirement for a clearer brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the input to consideration and overhauled the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to deliver on its potential to our players.
Our confidence in this project grows every day. To advance the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of the team. After some time of talks, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
His management and background in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having spent the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable series in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in welcoming Ben soon. We are all eager to continue witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to come.
The President
Brinkman currently serves in the position of senior developer and head of production at the renowned studio for their flagship title. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in various production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.
The upcoming game was revealed in last year together with a community playtest. Then, 31st Union portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch states. "Challenge the opponents with fresh skills, challenges, and tests that shift every round. Will you safely extract with your valuable rewards? Or go big, gamble everything, and hope your group can secure victory? The option is yours."
The game lacks an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but fans can look forward to additional details as production progresses.
